Jefferson "Golden Secret" Mystery Clock |
||
Another of
Jefferson's line of mystery clocks from the mid-1950's, the "Golden
Secret" clock is featured here. The "secret" is a
motor in the base which drives the movement through a flexible shaft
inside the curved support structure. It uses the same weighted
mechanism as in the Golden Hour
clock, but the flexible shaft has replaced the rotating glass
disk. It seems to be far less common than the Golden Hour, and is
a bit smaller. The list price was $22.95
in 1956.
The spare, minimal design is a perfect example of the Mid-Century Modern style, in which the traditional clock face and bulky mechanism have almost totally disappeared. What is left is little more than an abstraction of the clock concept, light and airy, a delicate object that almost seems to float above the surface which supports it. |
