Lux Catalin Mass Clock

Lux Catalin Mass Clock

This unusual "mass prayer" clock for the devout Roman Catholic gave the time for locations around the globe, with Rome (naturally) as the point of reference at 12 noon.  The clock features a blood-red Catalin cross supported by a black Catalin base.  The only clue to origin is are the markings "Patented C.P.B 1934" on the back.  The movement is a ubiquitous, cheap wind-up movement made by Lux.  When placed in a sunny location (never a good idea with Catalin), the cross assumes an intense glow that appears to issue from within.  There was also a painted wood version of this clock that is far less desirable.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this clock is the red Catalin cross, itself.  It was precisely the same shaped casting as used in a comtemporary gambling accessory.  Proof, perhaps, that it's a very thin line that separates the saint from the sinnner!
