Shure Model 718A Bakelite Crystal Microphone |
|||
This is certainly an unusual microphone design. The Shure model 718A was made in the late 1940's and featured a brown Bakelite case. The shape resembles another well-known electrical appliance which shall go unnamed as this is a "G-rated" site. No doubt, it was the focus of numerous off-color jokes, which may explain its rarity today. Shure called this mike the "Versatex". It was a crystal type, suggested for use in ham radio or public address applications. It's list price was $10.00 when new.
