Holmes Burglar Alarm (As Found)

The device shown on this page is a portion of a burglar alarm system made by the Holmes Electric Protective Company in the 1890s.  It is seen in the condition it was in when I acquired it.

Most of the metal pieces were nickel plated, and have suffered considerable corrosion.  All but a few needed replating.  All of the steel parts were rusted.  There are four knob-like objects at the corners of the bell mechanism.  These are rubber, and were nailed to the oak baseboard.  I suspect there was originally a cover, now missing, that was held in place by these rubber knobs.  Since there are no markings anywhere on this device, it is likely that the manufacturer's name and patent information was on this cover.
