| This rare 1939 Detrola
model 283 radio featured a "Beetle" Plaskon case which saves
an otherwise uninteresting square, boxy set from oblivion. It is
the standard 5-tube (plus ballast) set of the day, covering the
broadcast band only. It was also available in brown Bakelite.
Sadly, this radio has a major problem on top. The heat of the audio output tube caused the case to crack, and eventually a piece broke away and was lost. This should serve as a warning to the collector who insists on listening to the ball game on a valuable radio. |
