General Electric Model L-622 "Jewel Box" |
||
This is the 1941 GE model L-622. For obvious reasons, it has come to be called the "Jewel Box". The case is a very translucent, reddish-amber colored Catalin, with dark brown or black marbling. Like many other Catalin sets, this one has problems with the conflict between the Catalin which shrunk over the years, and the metal parts that didn't. In this set, the trouble spot is the four screws at the corners of the speaker that hold the chassis in the case, as well as the mounting points for the hinges. This set used tubes that were normally intended for battery-powered portable radios, but this set can only operate from standard house current. | ||
