Trophy Bowling Ball Radio

Trophy Bowling Ball Radio

Trophy made two versions of this radio just before WW-II..  The one shown here was meant to look like a bowling ball.  It is about the right size and color (black Bakelite), and the three finger holes are there.  The other version was an oversized baseball, with a cardboard cover over the Bakelite shell.

The base is painted Bakelite with brass trim, on which the recipient's name could be engraved.  It was, after all, meant to be a trophy.  The bowling ball version is considerably rarer than the baseball, but is less desirable (and less valuable) due to the generally greater collector interest in baseball.
